How to create a diy gold leaf triptych

Add a touch of gold to your walls with our DIY leaf triptych painting. In this tutorial we'll show you how to sketch up and paint one for yourself!

Step 1. The Oak Leaf

Refer to the image on page 6. Lightly lay in the stem first and then lay in the rest of the leaf. Bear in mind that an Oak leaf is not symmetrical so try to make one side subtly different from the other side.

Squeeze out a thick bead of Titanium White and a small spot of Gold, Phthalo Blue and Lamp Black and mix it thoroughly. Lay this onto the canvas around the leaf and cut in neatly around it. Squeeze out Gold paint and paint in the leaf.

Step 2. The Monstera Leaf

Refer to the image on page 7 and begin by lightly drawing in the outer shape. Draw in each separate frond then add the holes. Squeeze out a thick bead of Titanium White and a small spot of Gold, Phthalo Blue and Lamp Black and mix it thoroughly . Lay this onto the canvas around the leaf and cut in neatly around it. Squeeze out Gold paint and paint in the leaf.

Step 3. The Fern Leaf

The Fern Leaf is the most complex leaf to draw up. Lightly draw up the general shape of the leaf. Add the central midrib. Draw in the veins emitting from the midrib moving up the leaf getting smaller the closer they get to the tip. Next draw in the shape of the leaflet around each vein and draw in each sub leaf. When you lay in the sub leaves ensure that they are more acute at the tip and that they lean forward.

Squeeze out a thick bead of Titanium White and a small spot of Gold, Phthalo Blue and Lamp Black and mix it thoroughly. Lay this on to the canvas around the leaf and cut in neatly around it. Squeeze out Gold paint and first paint in the midrib. Next paint from the top of the fern and move down to each leaflet. Lay in each sub leaf with a thick dab of paint to create a risen surface.
