Create a fingerprint keepsake from clay

It’s time to get hands on!  This air-dry clay project teaches little artists how to create a special fingerprint keepsake for a loved one. This fingerprint keepsake makes learning fun and helps develop fine motor skills and hand eye-coordination. The little ones will have a ball squashing, pressing and rolling the clay out, plus it makes for a great gift.

Whether it becomes a keyring, a decoration, a desk hanging or even a necklace pendant, (it’s totally up to you). Imprint a little hand, fingerprint, or a tiny foot and have fun creating together, capturing the time before little artists become big artists.

1.   Cut a small piece of clay using fishing line or a clay cutting tool.

2.   Roll the clay into a ball using a rolling pin or your hand, then flatten the ball into your desired shape (around a 5mm thickness). The diameter will likely be around 10cm – 20cm, depending on the size of fingers, hands or feet.

3.   Press your finger into the middle of the clay firmly to leave an imprint.

4.   Make a hole in the clay using a straw or the end of a paint brush. Then let the clay dry for at least 24 hours.

5.   Once dry, thread the ribbon or craft string through the hole and tie a knot in the end.

6.   Now it's ready for you to hang! Or grab the paint brushes out and get painting!

This fingerprint keepsake is now yours to enjoy. Use it as a keyring, a necklace pendant, mini wall or desk hanging, a class/family windchime or a small paper weight. Remember to always use our products under adult supervision and in a safe environment.
