Deco Pudge is a versatile, all-in-one glue, sealer, and varnish that opens up a world of creative possibilities. Whether you're upcycling furniture, creating mixed media art, or just looking for an easy way to protect your projects, Deco Pudge can lend a helping hand. Let’s dive into different techniques you can try with Deco Pudge – these just scratch the surface!

1. DIY decoupage on wood

One of the most popular uses for Deco Pudge is decoupage (pun intended), a simple yet effective way to personalise and transform wooden items. This technique involves gluing decorative paper or fabric onto a surface and then sealing it for a durable, lasting result.

How to do it: Start by choosing the wooden surface you want to decorate—it could be a box, drawers, a picture frame, or even an old table. Sand the wood lightly to ensure it's smooth, then wipe away any dust. Apply a thin layer of Deco Pudge to the wood using a flat brush. Place your decorative paper or fabric onto the wet surface and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles. Once it's dry, add another layer of Deco Pudge on top to seal. Feel free to add multiple coats for extra durability, allowing each layer to dry completely between coats. This technique works great for upcycling old furniture or creating custom home decor.

2. Photo transfer how-to

Deco Pudge can be used to transfer printed images onto various surfaces, giving your projects a unique, personal touch. This technique is ideal for creating custom designs on wood, canvas, or even glass.

How to do it: Choose the image you want to transfer, and laser print it onto regular printing paper (note that the image will be reversed when transferred). Apply a generous, even layer of Deco Pudge to the surface you’re transferring onto before pressing the image printed-side onto the surface. Smooth gently and let it dry completely (this could take several hours or overnight). Once dry, use a damp cloth or sponge to rub away the paper, revealing the transferred image underneath. Finish by sealing the transferred image with another layer of Deco Pudge to protect it.

3. Multimedia art collage

If you love dabbling in mixed media (or can’t make up your mind which medium to choose), Deco Pudge is ideal for layering and sealing different materials like paper, fabric, and embellishments. It acts as both a glue and a sealer, making it easy to bring all kinds of media together for a unique artwork.

How to do it: Start by gathering materials like magazine cut-outs, coloured paper, fabric scraps, and other embellishments. Arrange them on your canvas or chosen art surface until you’re happy with the layout. Use Deco Pudge to glue each piece in place, applying it under and over each element. This will help seal everything down and create a unified surface. You can also use Deco Pudge to add a final finish to your piece (choose from Gloss or Matte), making it look polished and professional. This technique is great for journalling, scrapbooking, canvas art, and even decorating furniture.

4. How to harden fabric

Use Deco Pudge to stiffen fabric, ideal for making fabric flowers, bows, or other textile decorations that need to hold their shape. It’s a simple way to give fabric projects more structure and durability.

How to do it: Cut your fabric into the desired shapes you want to create—flowers, leaves, or even abstract designs. Brush a layer of Deco Pudge onto both sides of the fabric, making sure it’s fully saturated. Once coated, shape the fabric as needed and let it dry. The Deco Pudge will harden the fabric, so it holds its shape. This technique works well for making decorative elements that can be used in wreaths, gift wrapping, fashion pieces, décor, or as part of a mixed-media art piece.

5. Sealing artwork

Deco Pudge isn’t just for gluing—it's also a great sealer and varnish that can protect your artwork. Whether you’re working with acrylic paint, markers, or collage elements, try using it to add a subtle protective layer that keeps your work looking great.

How to do it: Once your artwork is complete and fully dry, use a flat brush to apply a thin, even layer of Deco Pudge over the entire surface. You can choose between Gloss or Matte finish depending on the look you’re going for. Be sure to use a smooth brush (e.g., taklon) to help prevent streaks while applying. Allow to dry completely before adding additional layers as needed. Deco Pudge will create a protective finish that helps prevent fading, dust, and scratches.

6. How to make window clings

Creating window clings with Deco Pudge is a fun and easy way to add some custom flair to your windows. It’s a great technique to explore for holiday decorating – just change the shape of the clings to suit the theme of the season!

How to do it: Start by mixing Deco Pudge with acrylic paint in a 1:1 ratio to create your desired colours. Spread the mixture evenly on a Tear-off Paper Palette, taking care to get a consistent layer. Let it dry naturally—this could take several hours or overnight. Once fully dry, carefully peel the dried mixture off the palette and place it on a non-stick cutting surface.

Next, use a Precision Craft Knife to cut out the shape of your desired design. You can create anything from simple shapes to intricate designs—whatever inspires you! It may be easier to place a paper cutout of your shape on top of the cling material and cut around it for precise lines. Once your shapes are ready, simply stick them to any glassy, non-porous surface, like a window or mirror. They’ll stay up for ages and can be removed without leaving a trace.

7. How to paint glass

Mix Deco Pudge with acrylic inks to create a glaze effect on glassware! This technique is great for creating candle holders, stained-glass style painting, and more. Check out the video above for step-by-step instructions.

The key to getting the most out of Deco Pudge is to experiment and have fun. Try out these techniques on different surfaces and see what works best for you. With a little practice, you'll be able to create beautiful, customised pieces that are unique to your style. So, grab your Deco Pudge, gather your materials, and start creating today!
