PVA Glue & Water Mix
This quick and easy seal hack doesn’t need you to go very far at all. Get a cup of water and the PVA glue that's stashed away in your craft cupboard. The amount of PVA glue and water that you’ll need is going to vary on the size of the sculpture you made.
Mix 80% PVA and 20% water until you get a pouring cream consistency. Paint the mixture around your sculpture and let it dry completely (make sure to get in any grooves and curves). Hint: A smoother surface can be achieved by applying the coating with a gentle taklon brush.
Acrylic Gloss & Matte Mediums
You can also use either an acrylic gloss or matte medium as a sealant on your air-dry clay sculpture. This is useful if you want your sculpture to have a specific kind of finish. Cover every inch of the surface, then wait for it to dry. (Once more, you need to be sure to go in between all the creases and curves.)
Painting
You won't need to worry about adding an additional seal to your air-dry clay work if you want to paint it, since acrylic paint itself can be a very effective seal for your creations. A layer of grey serves as an excellent foundation for the remainder of your paint job. After you have applied at least three coats across the whole area, you’re finished!
