How to Make Spin Art

ADULT SUPERVISION REQUIRED FOR THIS PROJECT

Option 1. White overlay pour.

Colours: Turquoise, Vermilion, Purple, Yellow Orange, Gold, Black and White. Mix all the paints with water, to the viscosity of pouring cream, into little cups. Starting from the middle of the canvas pour out the paint in the order outlined above. Lay down a colour and carefully pour the next colour around it and so on until you reach 2/3rds of the way over the canvas. Lay a thick bead of White paint around the colours you have laid down and using a palette knife, drag the White paint over the colours you have just laid down. Then give the painting a series of hard spins. Continue spinning the canvas until you’re happy with the result.

Option 2. Spiral pour.

Colours: Blue Crystal, Gold, Vermilion, Yellow Orange and Cadmium Yellow. Begin by slowly spinning the canvas. Start in the centre of the canvas with the Blue Crystal and create a bead moving toward the edge. Then follow with the Gold, Vermilion, Yellow Orange and Cadmium Yellow. Once all the colours are on, give the canvas 3 really hard spins. Slowly spin the canvas and create another spiral bead over the canvas with the same Blue dirty mix used for project 3 ( Cool Dirty Pour). Once this is on, give it another hard spin.

Option 3. Cool dirty pour.

Colours: White, Blue Crystal Glitter, Cerulean, Phthalo Blue, Green Light, Glitter Green and Cadmium Yellow. This spin is on a 50 cm wide round canvas and the paint is applied a different way. The paint is poured into a single cup. Do this in little amounts, and in the order above, then repeat the order again. It can then be applied. Begin by slowly spinning the canvas and pour the paint into the middle of the canvas. The paint will move outwards. If you wish to create the lines emitting out from the centre like the one we did, give it a really hard spin once the paint has reached 2/3rds of the way across the canvas.

Option 4. Warm dirty pour.

Colours: White, Flora, Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Orange, Glitter Red, Vermilion and Gold. At this point start to move the cup so that the paint crosses over itself and creates an interesting pattern.

Option 5. Manipulated spiral pour.

Colours: Pink, Vermilion, Yellow Orange, Cadmium Yellow, Green Light, Cerulean Blue, Phthalo Blue. Begin by slowly spinning the canvas. Start in the middle with the Pink and create a bead moving toward the edge, then follow with the above colours. Once all the colours are on, give the canvas a really hard spin. Lay another spiral bead of Cadmium Yellow over the surface. Use a palette knife and drag lines outward through the paint from the middle. Give it another hard spin.

Option 6. Combination pour.

This pour was done last and it used every bit of paint left. Basically in the centre is a dirty pour from 1 cup and other colours are laid over it in spiral shapes. Lastly a bead of White paint is run around the outside and dragged over the top. The canvas is then spun twice at a medium speed.
