Polymer Clay Cane Pattern:
Creating a polymer clay cane pattern is quite easy. To start, choose your colours and create flat pieces. Lay the colours over each other and roll into a log. Cut off any excess and roll it again to stick all the clay together. Keep rolling as it gets smaller and longer. Use a sharp knife to slice the log and create little clay pellets. Lay the slices over another sheet of clay so that the slab doesn’t fall apart. Roll and flatten out the slab to even out the pattern and you’re done! This is an extremely versatile pattern, so have some fun and experiment to create your own patterns.
Woven Pattern:
To create a woven pattern, or what some call, “a polymer clay sweater pattern” can be tricky to get the hang of, but you’ll get there! Roll two colours of clay to an even thickness, you can do this by using a rolling pin or a clay press. Then, cut the clay into even strips and start weaving the clay through itself, working under and over.
Imprinting:
Imprinting is probably one of the most well-known ways to add details to polymer clay. You can use pretty much anything to imprint onto polymer clay. Roll your clay out flat, choose your tools and gently press into the clay. Try not to press too deep into the clay or it could push all the way through.
Gold Leaf Patterning:
Gold leaf polymer clay is a stunning pattern to use for your clay crafts. Simply roll your clay out flat, but not as flat as you want it to be when you finish. Lay a piece of gold leaf over the top and start to roll it out. It’ll start to crack and create a gorgeous multi medium pattern.
Polymer clay terrazzo:
The last and final pattern is extremely easy and can be tweaked to match anyone’s personal preferences with more or less clay colours. To start with the polymer clay terrazzo pattern, roll out a slab of clay. Choose 3-4 colours and slice these into loose shapes. Add these randomly onto the slab. Once your happy with the number of slices on your slab, roll it out to join the clay together, it’s that easy!
