How to: clean and store palette knives

Cleaning Palette Knives:
Maintaining a regular cleaning plan for your palette knives is great if you want to extend their life and create smooth, polished pieces of art. Allowing your palette knives to collect a jacket of paint can result in rough, uneven edges that might impact how the palette knife performs. So, cleaning your knives after use, is a good habit to get into.

The best way to clean palette knives is to simply wipe away any extra wet paint using a cloth or paper towel during a painting session.  Scrape off the extra paint with a hobby knife if your palette knife already has a fashionable paint jacket on. Always scrape away from yourself while using a hobby knife, this will keep you safe and free from injury. To keep your palette knives happy (and you), clean these in between each painting session.

Storing Palette Knives:
It is just as vital to store your palette knives as it is to clean them. Keeping them damp might create rust, which no one wants. The best way to store palette knives is to make sure they’re totally dry before storing them, and to store them handle down to avoid bending or distorting the curve of the knife itself.
