Create an abstract rainbow painting in acrylics with Kylie Jane

Hi, I'm Kylie Jane and I'll be stepping you through how to create an abstract rainbow painting! I chose to paint a rainbow today because it's something I have been painting for a while since Coronavirus broke out in Australia. And I really hope it brings hope to people. And it's something beautiful for everyone that everyone can paint.

To get started, go in with a soft pink to create an arch, and then build this line up to become thicker.

Then, go in with a violet colour and paint another arch inside of the first arch.

Take the Dusty Pink colour and paint an arch on the outside of the soft pink arch. Gradually build the colour up.

Hand paints a third arch using a dusty pink Mont Marte acrylic paint on page.

Then, create a sand colour using Yellow Ochre and Titanium White. Use a clean, thick brush to paint another arch outside of the dusty pink arch and build the colour up.

Add more Titanium White to the sand colour on your palette and paint arch shapes in the foreground. Fill the shapes with solid colour.

Add Titanium White to the violet-purple on your palette to make a pastel shade. Use this to paint another arch inside of the rainbow.

Kylie adds a violet colour to the inner rainbow using a smaller, flat brush.

Take the Coral colour and paint a band on the arch shapes in the foreground.

Kylie adds a gold line to the square shapes for definition, next to open paints and a jar of watered-down paint.

Outline the shapes using your purple colour and Titanium White mix on your palette.

Take the pastel purple shade on your palette to paint a sky in the background. You can add more white to create a gradient as you paint across the page.

Kylie adds a pastel purple to the background of the artwork using a thick paintbrush.

Go back in with Titanium White to highlight the outside of the rainbow.

Kylie adds outlines to the background and around the rainbow using a light purple acrylic paint.

Add stripes to the arches in the background using the Rose Gold Pouring Acrylic Paint.

Kylie adding details to the square shapes using Mont Marte Acrylic Pouring Paint in rose gold on a small paint brush.

Add definition to the rainbow by adding a white strip between the sand colour and dusty pink arches.

Kylie fills in gaps between the colour by adding a white colour strip to colour block the rainbow.

Next, take your soft pink colour to the outside of the rainbow to build up the size. Feel free here to add in or remove any of the extra details to make this work completely yours.

Kylie adds purple dots around the outside of the rainbow.

And, you’re all done!
