These cute little polymer clay pots are quick and easy to make. All you need to do is shape your clay (make sure your pot has a flat bottom so it can stand up) and decorate! Since air plants don’t need soil, you can pop them straight in to create your pineapples.

Tools and materials:

  • Polymer clay
  • Clay tools
  • Acrylic paint
  • Air plant

2. Paper flowers

There are so many ways to make paper flowers, but these giant dahlias really take our breath away. You’ll need some patience, but the end result is worth the effort (and you do get the hang of it as you go). You can find some instructions by Abbi Kirsten in her DIY paper dahlia article.

Tools and materials:

• Coloured paper
• Glue gun
• Scissors

3. DIY chalkboard

Three DIY chalkboards on a white wall.

Did you know that you can turn just about any surface into a chalkboard? All you need is some chalkboard paint, a foam roller and a flat surface to paint.

Tools and materials:

• Chalkboard paint
• Foam roller
• Canvas or board

Add a creative touch to your desk with some air dry clay paper weights. Choose some stones, roll out your air dry clay and wrap it around the stones, moulding it until the surface is smooth. You can then add your own designs using a clay tool or some stamps! You can even add a splash of colour using acrylic paints if you want to brighten up your space.

Tools and materials:

• Air dry clay
• Clay tools
• Stone
• Stamps
• Acrylic paints
• Paint brushes

5. Air dry clay candle holder

While we’re on the topic of air hardening clay, we love this tea light holder idea. You can create any design you like, all you need to do is make sure there is space for your tea light to sit (you can do this by pushing your tea light into the clay while it’s wet and removing it while it dries).

Tools and materials:

• Air dry clay
• Acrylic paint
• Paint brushes
• Clay tools
• Tea light

6. Paper cut-outs

Hand holding a reindeer paper cut out.

This is a fun little project we’ve noticed popping up on social media quite a bit. Draw a shape onto a piece of paper and use a hobby knife to cut it out. You can then hold it up to any background and let your surroundings fill it with colours and textures.

Tools and materials:

• Card stock
• Hobby knife
• Pencil

7. Creative gift tags

Pink and blue abstract gift tags.

Do you ever wrap a present and wish you had a little gift tag for the finishing touch? Stock up your supply with this great DIY gift tag idea. You can make them as abstract or realistic as you like, it’s up to you.

Tools and materials:

• Card stock
• Acrylic paint
• Paint brushes
• Palette

8. Origami decorations

Several origami cranes in different paper colours.

There are so many different types of origami you can try – from simple to complicated. Origami can be a really fun challenge and also makes a cute decoration for parties.

Tools and materials:

• Paper

9. A care package

Create a personalised care package to make someone feel special. Simply decorate a paper bag or box and fill it with their favourite goodies. This is the perfect surprise for someone who might need a little pick-me-up or heartfelt thanks.

Tools and materials:

• Paper bag or cardboard box
• Embellishments
• Glue

10. Painted mason jars

Make a vase or stationery holder in your favourite colour. This is the perfect project to try if you’re looking for something that won’t take up a lot of your time. Make sure you clean and dry the jar thoroughly to help the paint stick to it (you can do this by using rubbing alcohol and a cotton pad to remove any oils before you start painting).

Tools and materials:

• Acrylic paint
• Foam brush
• Twine
