Meet UK artist, Sharon Langdon Bailey (@craftedbybears), who works magic with cardboard to make creative learning fun! She shares bold and bright crafts to create at home with your little ones, so they stay inspired, develop imagination, and learn through art. Let’s get to know all about her art journey.
Do you have a fave memory or moment since you started @craftedbybears?

The moments that are most memorable are the projects that were inspired to teach my daughter at different levels in her school life. Most significantly being our lockdown learning together. It’s amazing how the power of craft can make learning so easy and fun! I really miss our phonics learning and play!
What’s your spirit animal (i.e., what animal totally embodies your vibe)?
I’ve always had an affinity with cats. If I’m to be reincarnated, I’d like to be a rich person’s cat especially! I’m quite an affectionate and caring person but I’m not afraid to bite if necessary! I’m also extremely loyal and territorial.
What’s your creative process like? Do you prefer to plan it out or jump in and see how it unfolds?

I’m 100% a messy and spontaneous crafter (much to the joy of my husband)! I very rarely plan a project past the initial ‘in my head’ stage. I also work most efficiently when the odds are against me, or I have a tight deadline!
How do you make time for creative projects?
I think creativity is such a necessary tool to relax and unwind. Especially in the fast-paced life we all lead these days. It’s part of my DNA so I naturally make/find time almost every day. I’m so lucky that it’s my job to be creative now too!
What’s an educational art project you’ve been thinking about but haven’t got around to yet?

My creative wishlist is always lengthy and quite a few projects sadly don’t make it to fruition! I’ve taught my daughter French in the past and I’d love to continue teaching her different languages through the medium of art.
Aside from making and sharing your inspiring kids’ art ideas, what other hobbies do you enjoy?
Reading has always been a huge passion of mine and I’m currently reading the Harry Potter books to my daughter. I’ve also recently become slightly addicted to jigsaw puzzles! Hee hee, they’re so relaxing and therapeutic!
What supplies are your must-haves in every creative session?

My favourite canvas is cardboard, and I’ve been crafting with it for over 6 years now. I have a favourite permanent fine liner pen, and I go through so many putty rubbers!
How do you tackle art block? What gets you feeling creative again?
I always pop a well-loved movie in the background when I lack inspiration. I think the familiarity of an 80s classic relaxes me and motivates me to be creative!
What’s something you’re proud of, that you don’t often get to talk about?

I worked for the Walt Disney Company internationally and in the UK over a decade and it’s one of my proudest achievements!
Are you a sweet or savoury person?
100% sweet! Although I’m currently cutting down my sugar intake after the Christmas overindulgence!
